Publication Ethics and Malpratices Statement

Jurnal Humaniora Universal Indonesia (Universal Humanities Journal) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. This statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

This journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Any violation of ethical standards, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, or data manipulation, may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or removal of published articles at any time, even after publication. The journal reserves the right to use plagiarism detection software (Turnitin) to screen submitted manuscripts.

EDITOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountability and Plagiarism

Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published. Editorial decisions are guided by the journal’s policies, editorial board recommendations, and applicable legal requirements related to libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. All manuscripts are routinely screened using plagiarism detection software. The editor may consult other editors or reviewers when making publication decisions.

Fair Play

Editors evaluate manuscripts solely based on their intellectual content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for personal advantage. Reviewers and editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.

REVIEWER RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviewers play a vital role in maintaining the quality of the journal and must adhere to ethical guidelines:

  • Reviewers must keep all manuscript information confidential.

  • Reviewers should report any ethical concerns, plagiarism, or significant similarity to the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic merit and intellectual content.

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers using a double-blind peer review process.

  • Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback.

  • Reviewers who feel unqualified or unable to complete the review promptly should notify the Editor-in-Chief and withdraw from the review process.

  • Any suspected conflict of interest must be disclosed.

Manuscripts submitted by members of the Editorial Board are subject to the same review procedures as all other submissions.

AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting Standards

Authors must present accurate, original, and honest research results without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation. Research methods must be described clearly to allow replication.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and have not been published or submitted elsewhere. Proper citation and acknowledgment of all sources are required. Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should retain data for a reasonable period after publication.

Ethical Compliance

Authors must ensure that their research complies with ethical standards and relevant legal regulations.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their findings. Sources of funding must be acknowledged.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who made significant contributions to the research. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.

Multiple or Redundant Publication

Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal or publishing substantially similar research in multiple outlets is unethical and unacceptable.

Fundamental Errors

If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correction or retraction.

COPYRIGHT POLICY

Jurnal Humaniora Universal Indonesia (Universal Humanities Journal) is an open-access journal. All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal the right of first publication.

RETRACTION POLICY

Articles may be retracted due to plagiarism, duplicate publication, unethical research practices, data fabrication, or serious errors that invalidate findings. Retractions may be initiated by authors, editors, or affiliated institutions and will follow COPE guidelines.

A retraction notice will clearly identify the retracted article and explain the reasons for retraction. Retracted articles remain accessible with appropriate labeling to maintain the scholarly record.

ARTICLE WITHDRAWAL

Article withdrawal may occur prior to publication if errors, duplicate submissions, or ethical violations are identified. Authors must submit a formal withdrawal request to the editorial board.

ARTICLE REMOVAL (LEGAL REASONS)

In exceptional cases involving defamation, legal infringement, court orders, or threats to public safety, an article may be removed. Metadata will remain available, with the content replaced by a legal removal notice.

ARTICLE REPLACEMENT

If an article poses a serious risk or contains critical errors, authors may request replacement with a corrected version. Replacement follows retraction procedures, with clear documentation linking both versions.
