Journal Policy

All submitted manuscripts to Jurnal Humaniora Universal Indonesia (Universal Humanities Journal) are initially reviewed by the editorial team. Manuscripts deemed inappropriate in terms of scope, quality, or journal criteria are rejected promptly without external review. Manuscripts considered relevant and of potential interest to the journal’s readership are forwarded for double-blind peer review.

Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editors will make one of the following decisions: rejected, major revision required, minor revision required, or accepted. The final decision regarding manuscript publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief of Jurnal Humaniora Universal Indonesia (Universal Humanities Journal).

Submitted manuscripts are generally reviewed by two or more independent experts who assess the manuscript’s academic soundness, originality, coherence, clarity, and contribution to the field. Editorial decisions are made based on reviewers’ reports and, when necessary, in consultation with members of the Editorial Board.

The peer-review process consists of three stages:

  1. Initial Review
    The editor evaluates the manuscript’s suitability and conducts a similarity check to identify potential plagiarism. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal’s scope or exceed the similarity threshold will be returned to the author(s).

  2. Double-Blind Peer Review
    Manuscripts passing the initial review undergo a double-blind review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed. At least two reviewers are assigned. Editors ensure that no conflicts of interest occur.

  3. Editorial Decision
    The editor makes the final decision based on reviewers’ comments and recommendations.

PLAGIARISM POLICY

Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are strictly prohibited. Jurnal Humaniora Universal Indonesia (Universal Humanities Journal) uses plagiarism detection software (Turnitin) to screen all submitted manuscripts.

Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 25% will be rejected immediately. Authors are required to properly cite and quote all sources where overlapping or similar text is used.

Before publication, authors must submit a Statement of Originality, signed by at least one author who has obtained the consent of all co-authors, confirming that the manuscript is original and free from plagiarism.

RETRACTION POLICY

Editorial decisions are guided by the journal’s editorial policies and applicable legal requirements concerning defamation, copyright infringement, duplicate publication, and plagiarism. Published articles remain part of the scholarly record unless exceptional circumstances require retraction or removal.

Retractions may be initiated by editors, authors, or affiliated institutions. A retraction notice will clearly state the reasons for retraction and indicate that the data and conclusions should not be used as a basis for further research.

ARTICLE WITHDRAWAL

Article withdrawal may occur prior to publication due to errors, duplicate submissions, or violations of publication ethics (e.g., plagiarism, false authorship claims, data fabrication). Authors must submit a formal withdrawal request to the editorial board.

ARTICLE RETRACTION

Articles may be retracted due to serious ethical violations, including duplicate submission, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data falsification, or authorship manipulation. Retraction may also be used to correct major errors in submission or publication.

Retraction procedures include:

  • Returning the manuscript with a formal notice if violations are identified before publication;

  • Publishing a retraction notice titled “Retraction: [Article Title]” if violations are identified after publication;

  • Marking the PDF with a “Retracted” watermark;

  • Removing the HTML version while retaining metadata for record integrity.

ARTICLE REMOVAL (LEGAL LIMITATIONS)

In rare cases involving defamation, legal infringement, court orders, or threats to public safety, an article may be removed from the journal database. Metadata will remain available, with the content replaced by a legal removal notice.

ARTICLE REPLACEMENT

If an article poses serious risks or contains critical errors, authors may request replacement with a corrected version. Replacement follows retraction procedures, with transparent documentation linking both versions.
